Bono's "Red Campaign" with the Gap, Motorola, Armani, Converse, etc. How does buying a red cell phone help a child in Africa suffering from AIDS? Consumerism=Humanitarianism?

I think that the Red Campaign is genius. It is using western culture's lifestyle to help children in Africa suffering from AIDS. We all know that North America is run by big name commercial companies, so what Bono has done is feed off society's need to buy things. We are all consumerist, whether we admit it or not, so why not just keep doing what we do and help children in Africa at the same time. Besides most of the products that now wear the (RED) label are some the hottest consumer products out right now; from Apple iPods to Converse All Stars, thus making people give to a charity without having to even change their shopping routine.
Some animation purists say that computer animation, like that of Pixar, is cold and too rendered. Some modern animators believe that hand animation is dead because it is too time-consuming and labour-intensive. Compare and contrast traditional hand animation to computer animation using examples that you are familiar with. What do you prefer and why?

Well, I'm an old fashioned guy when it comes to animated movies. What's better than the Lion King, one of the best animated movies of all time. I think those types of movies are so successful because of the sense of effort put into them. I think every artist can relate to the fact that you feel a connection with all of your art that you just can't get with "modern animation". However, the animation that we experience now is visually stunning which is what makes modern animated movies great to watch. But it isn't only the quality of the animation that makes modern movies good, but the storylines that the writers are able to make because of the high quality of animation. As to which one I prefer well I will always like the old school animation that was drawn by hand, though in the age that we live in now and the quality of animation that we have I got to go with...

Journalism 11/12 Journal Entry Question #9

I think that in order to "make it big" in journalism, you need to have flare to your personality. It takes a special person to be able to catch someones attention through writing, reporting, or interviewing. To succeed you need to also have a passion for what you are doing. You have to be able to wake everyday and say that this what I want to do.

The two guest speakers that came to visit our school seemed to know from early in their high school years that they wanted to go into a journalistic career. Therefore they were able to find out what they needed to do for them to achieve their career goals. I think that that is also important, to know what you want and then figuring out how to get it. It makes it easier on yourself in the long run.

Coming into high school I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, and I had the mentality why should I care? It wasn't until the summer before grade 11, that had just finished summer school after another under achieving year, that I received some very important advice that still resonates with to this day. My sister told me that my seniors years of high school are the make or break years. You need to know what you want to do or you will probably never do anything. This was the harshest that my sister had ever been with me, but at the same time it was also the most caring. She basically told me smarten up because I don't want to see you fail. That same year I discovered that I wanted to be a radio broadcaster. I had always taken an interest in Journalism and now I finally knew what field I wanted to get into. I was always known as a talker so I figured that I might as well pick a profession where I get paid for it.
